Alongside moisturizers, drinking more liquids is a great way to combat dry skin. When it comes to liquids, water—or liquids that don’t have additives in them—is best. You can buy bottled water, or you can buy a new water bottle that you refill often. Just make sure that whatever action you take, you increase your fluid intake as much as possible. Drink throughout the day! The only time when increased fluid intake isn’t the answer is when your doctor tells you otherwise.
This might seem obvious, but smoking is very bad for your skin. If you smoke, the best option is to make sure that you stop as quickly as possible. Smoking results in several health conditions, but it can also cause your skin to look weathered and old prematurely—in many cases, people who smoke end up looking much older than their actual age.
Be Wary of Too Much Sun
Same as when you were a child, being wary of the sun is a great step towards keeping your skin as healthy as possible. No matter how long it’s been since you’ve last put on sunscreen, any amount is better than none, and starting later is better than never. Try not to stay outside too often during peak sunlight hours, wear sunscreen and sunhats to prevent the sun from harming your skin, and don’t hesitate to check with your doctor for signs of skin cancer.
Try Not to Soak in the Bath
Baths might seem great and luxurious, but once you’re older, long baths can do more harm than good. Even though you might find bath time relaxing, the hot water can dry your skin out immensely. You can try to add oils to the bathwater to mitigate the effects but cutting down on the bath time is a good idea.
And, if you decide to take a bath anyway—no one will blame you—then make sure you moisturize afterward.
